For an immense time, the world has experienced a series of conspiracy theories. As this reality brings the recent 5G Conspiracy into limelight, it is essential to give an account of the global impact of this conspiracy.
Briefly, the 5G Conspiracy is a theory widely held among specific people that the novel COVID-19 virus can be spread by 5G networks. While 5G broadband (a technical invention) and COVID-19 (a novel disease) are both recent occurrences, experts have taken time to confirm whether there is any technical connection between the two. Recently, Techcrude reported how 5G Network was not connected to COVID-19
The Impact Felt in Europe
The widespread rumor that coronavirus can be attributed to 5G network has caused much damage particularly in Europe where there are cases of facility destruction. However, Scientists have practically branded the 5G claims as ‘complete rubbish‘
According to reports, Belgium, Cyprus and Ireland have recorded cases of 5G phone masts being destroyed due to fears that coronavirus can be caused by exposure to the network facilities. With the United Kingdom seemingly the epicenter of this destruction, reports confirm that engineers on duty were molested and there were attempts to destroy a handful of towers.
The Need for 5G Broadband
5G is a recent network technology capable of transmitting large amounts of data more expeditiously than previous network technologies including 4G. It further paves the way for establishing secure connection between multiple devices, hence affording users the benefit of using a broad array of services conveniently.
An urgent need for the sorts of efficiency and reliability guaranteed by 5G has been felt particularly in the health sector where health professionals require dependable, fast and efficient supply of voice and data traffic. Considering that communications tools are indispensable in this era of COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare facilities may need 5G connections to prevent communication loss as well as improve communication-based service delivery.
UN’s Stance on The Conspiracy
In response to the widespread misconception that 5G broadband is associated with COVID-19 contagion and the resulting cases of phone mast destruction in Europe, the United Nations (UN) has confirmed that 5G broadband has nothing to do with the spread of coronavirus. The United Nations made the confirmation through its agency for information and communication technologies known as the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). UN’s intervention is relatively an attempt to allay fears over the danger mistakenly ascribed to 5G broadband installations in the light of COVID-19 virus.
Why 5G Can’t Trigger the Spread of COVID-19
According to Monika Gehner who is ITU’s spokesperson, the theory that COVID-19 is associated with 5G broadband is deceptive and should be considered one with no technical proofs. Therefore, it is quite ridiculous to assume or accept that COVID-19 can be spread by 5G broadband since radio waves cannot transmit viruses.
In the light of the widespread of the misconception (that 5G broadband can spread coronavirus), the World Health Organization (WHO), which is the UN agency spearheading the response to COVID-19, was stimulated to include the 5G conspiracy in its list of “COVID-19 myth busters”. Quite essentially, these myth busters are contained in a written content which clarifies that it is impossible for viruses to be transmitted via mobile networks or radio waves.
The authoritative intervention by the World Health Organization (WHO) has condemned the widespread conspiracy of 5G broadband and COVID-19. This alone is enough reason for anyone, whether tech savvy or not, to agree that the use of 5G network will not expose them to COVID-19 infection.
To further authenticate the assertion above, it has been confirmed that despite some countries not supporting 5G broadband yet, such countries are grappling with the spread of coronavirus.
